Final Voter Registration Weekend: Every Eligible South African Urged to Register Before the Deadline

South Africans are being urged to take advantage of the final voter registration weekend on 1 and 2 August 2026, which marks the last opportunity for eligible citizens to register to vote or update their voter registration details ahead of the Local Government Elections on 4 November 2026.
The Electoral Commission (IEC) has called on all eligible voters, particularly first-time voters and those who have recently changed their residential address, to visit their nearest voting station during the registration weekend. Voters can register, confirm their voting district, or update their address to ensure they can cast their ballot on election day.
Local government elections play a vital role in determining who will lead municipalities responsible for essential services such as water, sanitation, electricity, roads, refuse collection, housing, and local economic development. Registering to vote is the first step in ensuring communities have a voice in choosing leaders who will be accountable for delivering these services.
The IEC says the final registration weekend builds on the success of the first registration drive held in June, during which nearly 2.9 million voter registration transactions were processed nationwide.

Voters can check their voting station and register online at www.elections.org.za, or visit any voting station with their green barcoded ID book, Smart ID card, or valid temporary ID certificate.In KZN, voting stations will be open from 8am to 5pm both days.
